Dana Altman, who coached Kansas State to the semifinals of the National Invitation Tournament, was hired Thursday as coach at Creighton.

He replaces Rick Johnson, who resigned March 2 after a 7-22 season and a three-year record of 24-59.

Altman was 68-54 in his four seasons at Kansas State. In 1993, he was the Big Eight coach of the year.

The guessing game over President Clinton and the Final Four is over. He’s going.

Clinton had been saying all week he would like to attend the Arkansas-Arizona semifinal, but there were lingering doubts about whether he would attend.

Those doubts ended Thursday when aides said he would fly straight from his vacation in Southern California to North Carolina on Saturday.
