1993: Began season on 40-man roster but landed on 60-day disabled list April 3 because of a strained right shoulder. Began rehabilitation assignment in Vancouver and was recalled by Angels June 25. Wound up with eight saves in 10 opportunities.

1993: His .243 average was lowest in his last 11 seasons, but Davis had the best offensive numbers of his career with 27 home runs and 112 RBIs; in ’92 with Minnesota, he batted .288 (12 homers, 66 RBIs). He pulled to within 70 RBIs of reaching 1,000 for career.

MISCELLANY: Since current rule went into effect in 1954, Davis’ 112 RBIs last season is most without the benefit of a sacrifice fly. Boston’s Nick Esasky (108 in 1989) is only other player to reach 100.

1993: Season ended August 26 against Baltimore; Ben McDonald’s fastball broke DiSarcina’s right thumb. He stayed in the game another inning and even turned a double play. Injury ended streak of 211 consecutive games played, fourth-longest in club history.

MISCELLANY: Hit first pitch well in 1993, batting .322 (19 for 59). A day after Larry Bird’s 1992 retirement, the Massachussetts native switched jersey uniforms, from No. 11 to No. 33.

1993: Completed second consecutive 7-11 season in majors, but ERA rose from 4.08 to 4.97. Threw a three-hitter, striking out eight, vs. Chicago on April 19. Was 7-9 as starter (4.83 ERA), 0-2 as a reliever (8.10). In final 16 games, was 0-6; in final 10 starts, 0-4.

MISCELLANY: Began minor league career as a shortstop, then was converted to third and made the Angels as a second baseman. He batted in every spot in the lineup last season except the leadoff and ninth.

1993: Batted .429 in the spring, but played entire minor league season with Vancouver before joining the Angels Sept. 8. Hit .315 with 28 doubles, nine home runs and 74 RBIs for Vancouver. Batted .600 with runners in scoring position and two outs for Angels.

1993: Led league in complete games (13), becoming first left-hander to do so since Ron Guidry in 1983 (21). In his 14 losses, Angels scored only 26 runs and scored two or fewer runs eight times. Has won at least 16 games four times in last five seasons.

MISCELLANY: Owns longest tenure in Angel uniform, dating to 1986. Had identical 18-9 seasons in 1990 and ‘91, but slipped to 7-12 in 1992 in season following corrective toe surgery.

1993: Will get another shot at being the team’s bullpen closer. He saved 21 games in 1992, but had only 11 last season because of injuries. Spent 40 days on the disabled list with tendinitis in the rotator cuff, followed by a 30-day rehab with Vancouver.

MISCELLANY: Never pitched as a short reliever until 1992 season. Stepped in when Bryan Harvey was injured and saved 21 games in 24 opportunities. He had a 1.80 earned-run average as a reliever.

1993: In one season in Japan, finished among Central League leaders in batting (seventh), doubles (sixth) and RBIs (13th) while starting 120 of 130 games at second base for Yakult, which defeated three-time champion Seibu for the league title.

1993: Homered on first swing in first at-bat after recovery from hip replacement surgery, and was eventually named Comeback Player of the Year by The Sporting News. Averaged a home run every 17.8 at-bats--by contrast, Chili Davis homered every 21.2 at-bats.

MISCELLANY: Combined with Mike Witt to throw a no-hitter in his first start as an Angel on April 11, 1990, beating his former club, Seattle, 1-0. It was baseball’s first combined no-hitter since 1976.

1993: Began well for Texas, starting opening day in place of injured Kevin Brown and beating Baltimore, 7-4, at Camden Yards but wound up 1-5 with an 8.54 ERA in eight starts. Was disabled with strained neck May 18, returned June 2 in a middle relief role.

MISCELLANY: The first athlete from Radford (Va.) University ever drafted by a professional team. A second-round pick in 1990, he went 19-14 with a 3.62 ERA and set 21 school records in college.

1993: Placed on waivers by St. Louis Aug. 15 when he had an 8-10 record and 3.97 ERA. Signed by the Angels five days later and had eight starts the rest of the way, going 3-2 with a 3.94 ERA. Underwent arthoscopic surgery on left elbow in February.
