JEFFERSON PARK : Refurbished Library Opens Its Doors

Share

The Jefferson Vassie D. Wright Memorial Branch Library opened its expanded facility last week at 3311 W. Jefferson Blvd.

The opening was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony, used book sale and daylong musical celebration in nearby Shaw Park. Improvements, which took about eight months to complete, included a new foyer, carpet, paint and installation of public restrooms--the first for the library since opening in 1923.

“It was a long time in coming, but we’re really happy about this,” said senior librarian Gladys Cole. “This is the only library in the Jefferson Park area. . . . It’s important to the community as a resource, particularly for kids.”
