YORBA LINDA : City May Apply for Urban Parks Grant

Share

The Parks and Recreation Commission is suggesting that the city seek $125,000 from the county to improve lighting for the proposed expansion of the sports fields at Yorba Linda Middle School and to make improvements to the El Cajon equestrian and bike trail.

The two projects are eligible for 3rd District Urban Parks Program funding, a county program that provides matching grants for the development and improvement of parks in urban areas.

If the City Council approves the commission’s recommendation, the city will apply for a grant to replace the wooden light poles at the Yorba Linda Middle School field with steel poles and updated lighting.

That project is expected to cost $100,000, and the commission recommends that the city apply for a $50,000 grant.

The El Cajon trail project includes new fencing, landscaping and irrigation and is expected to cost $150,000.

The commission recommended the city apply for a $75,000 grant for the project.

Other city parks that have benefited from the program in the past include Hurless Barton Park.

The city received $150,000 last year to relocate the Adventure Playground and tear down the old senior center at the park.

The city also received a $100,000 grant in 1992 to develop vehicle access into Arroyo Park.
