Kuwait Prince Makes Change in His Cabinet
Kuwait’s crown prince announced a Cabinet shuffle, warning of critics who have been trying to fracture the government.
The crown prince, Sheik Saad al Abdullah al Sabah, who also is prime minister, made the announcement on Monday during a 40-minute televised address.
But he gave no details of the shuffle, saying he first had to inform the emir, Sheik Jabbar al Ahmed al Sabah.
The 16-member Cabinet, formed in October, 1992, following the first post-Persian Gulf War elections, includes six members of Parliament.
The Parliament has become a high-profile forum for criticism of the government. Some members have called for a greater role for Islam in lawmaking.
Political parties are not permitted, although most members of the assembly have aligned themselves into “movements” primarily of Islamists, secularists and Bedouins.
