A Record Month for Light Truck Sales: The Big Three auto makers each sold more light trucks in March than in any month ever and Chrysler Corp. set a record for total vehicle sales as well. Chrysler light truck sales grew 29% from a year earlier. GM’s were up 18.1% and Ford recorded a 17.7% increase. Chrysler vehicle sales were up 23% and higher than in any month in the company’s 69-year history. Robert L. Rewey, Ford vice president for North American marketing and sales, said demand was steady and strong for minivans and sport-utility vehicles, which are counted as light trucks in the company reports.
