Hearing Aid Maker Settles Charges of Deceptive Advertising: Dahlberg Inc., maker of the Miracle Ear hearing aid agreed to pay $700,000 to 15 states, including California, for claiming the device can screen out background noise from conversation. The Golden Valley, Minn., company ran the ads nationally until 1993, when the Food and Drug Administration ordered it to stop. Carl Sassano, Dahlberg president and chief executive, said the company settled to avoid costly litigation. Dahlberg is the nation’s third-largest manufacturer of hearing aids.
