COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Titan Gymnasts to Miss Nationals

The Cal State Fullerton women’s gymnastics team narrowly missed advancing to the national finals Sunday in the West regional competition at Boise, Ida.

The top three teams advance, but the Titans finished fourth with 191.275 points. Washington was third with 191.550 points.

UCLA won with 194.300 points and Oregon State (193.550) was second. The top three teams advance to the NCAA championships, April 21-23 at Utah.

Fullerton’s Celeste Delia was fourth overall with 38.950 points. Delia, who won the Big West all-around title earlier this season, was sixth in the floor exercise, seventh in the uneven bars, ninth in the balance beam, and 14th in the vault.

Cristi Clifford (38.450), also of Fullerton, was seventh. Both are expected to qualify for the national meet when the official field is announced today.

Chari Knight of Oregon State won the overall title with 39.400 points. She won the balance beam and the floor exercise.

In Big West Conference softball:

Pacific 4-4, Cal State Fullerton 2-2--Beth Corriea hit a grand slam in the fifth inning of the second game to help host Pacific (20-16, 7-5) complete the sweep. Corriea also had a hit and two RBIs in the first game.

Melissa Hadfield had a two hits, including a triple, and scored a run in the second game. Hadfield also had a triple in the first game.
