Some Progress in Brazil’s Fight Against Inflation: Brazil, which has been fighting hyperinflation, has reduced inflation in its major metropolitan areas from the rate earlier this year. But inflation is still running ahead of the rate at the same period last year. Inflation in March for the 11 major cities was 42.8%, 2.4 percentage points lower than the 45.2% registered in February, according to the government’s National Institute of Geography and Statistics. The rate was 27% a year ago.
