ALONDRA PARK : Newborn Girl Found Dead in Trash Can
A newborn girl was found dead in a trash can in Alondra Park near the city of Lawndale on Monday night by a man searching for aluminum cans.
The unidentified infant, who investigators believe had been born only a few hours before she was found, was wrapped in a size 18 or 20 long-sleeved woman’s shirt and stuffed into a white plastic garbage bag before being put in the park trash can. Her umbilical cord was still attached. Sheriff’s Deputy Rich Erickson said the 8-pound infant showed no obvious signs of trauma, but the cause of death has not been determined.
Erickson said the baby was found about 7:30 p.m. Monday in the northeast corner of the park near Manhattan Beach Boulevard. The shirt she was wrapped in was white with rust-colored stripes with “Venezia” printed on the label. Anyone with information about the infant is asked to call the sheriff’s homicide bureau at (213) 890-5500.
