Share

Applicants for a federal welfare program were fingerprinted for the first time this week under a program to fight fraud totaling hundreds of millions of dollars a year.

Welfare applicants were fingerprinted at Department of Public Social Services offices in Pasadena, Norwalk, Compton, Florence and West Los Angeles. The program involves the Aid to Families With Dependent Children program and will be expanded to other offices in coming weeks. Those refusing to be fingerprinted are denied aid.
