John Russell Arthur, an eight-year veteran of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, died Friday of cancer. He was 37.
Arthur was well-liked by his colleagues and the residents of Camarillo, whose streets he patrolled for nearly five years, Cmdr. Ray Abbott said.
“He just really loved his job and it showed,” Abbott said.
Acquaintances described Arthur as a devoted family man. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl, and four children: Melissa, 14; Adam, 12; Kristi, 11, and Russell, 9. The Camarillo resident is also survived by his parents and brothers and sisters.
Abbott said the Sheriff’s Department will have an honor guard at Arthur’s funeral, scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday at the Camarillo Baptist Church.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Brothers Griffin Mortuary, Camarillo.
