AST Rolls Out New PC: AST Research Inc. today will begin selling new personal computers in its Advantage line that combine and advance two recent achievements in the computer world: the functions of a telephone answering machine and a screen interface that makes it easier to find programs. In doing so, the world’s fifth-largest PC company for the first time moves ahead of competitors in the capabilities its products offer at prices consumers are used to paying. The Irvine-based company’s new PCs rely heavily on multimedia, high-quality sound and video stored on a CD-ROM.
