SIMI VALLEY : Leaders to Address Speed Hump Petition

Share

Concerned about safety and noise, Simi Valley residents near Royal High School have signed a petition aimed at persuading the city to install speed humps on their street.

The City Council today will consider the petition, signed by 75% of the residents of Arcane Street between Erringer Road and 1st Street.

A preliminary study conducted by the city showed that more than 85% of traffic on the street exceeded the 25-m.p.h. speed limit.

“People go flying down here and don’t even look to see of there are any kids around,” said Robert Vick, a homeowner with four children ranging in age from 3 to 17. “They use it as a quick way to get from Erringer to 1st, and all of us have to suffer because of it.”

Fourteen streets have speed humps in Simi Valley, which first agreed to allow them in 1987.

Speed humps are wider and do not jolt vehicles as harshly as the speed bumps found in parking lots.

Simi Valley is one of four Ventura County cities that allow speed humps. The others are Thousand Oaks, Santa Paula and Camarillo.
