Xircom Reports Record Profits in 2nd Quarter

Xircom Inc., a Calabasas maker of equipment for portable personal computers, said it had record profits and revenues for its fiscal second quarter and for the six months that ended March 31.

The company reported a second-quarter profit of $3.9 million, up 84% from $2.1 million in the second quarter last year. Revenue in the fiscal second quarter rose to $30.2 million, up 62% compared with $18.7 million in 1993.

For the six months, the company reported a profit of $7.35 million, up 88% from $3.92 million in the same period last year. The profit surge was from revenues of $56.6 million, up 58% from $35.9 million a year ago.

Xircom attributed its results to increased sales of its external adapters for personal computers and the introduction in the second quarter of a new product, a combination modem and adapter contained on a credit card.
