Activities Planned to Honor the Planet

Numerous activities are being planned around the county in conjunction with Earth Day, which this year falls on Saturday. Among them:

* The Channel Islands District Garden Club will sponsor a talk on falconry at the Taft Ranch in Ojai on Friday. Walking tours of the ranch will be offered during the event, scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Participants should bring a sack lunch, comfortable shoes and insect spray. Coffee and iced tea will be provided. A $10 donation is requested.

* Oxnard College will exhibit environmental-themed art and booths explaining products at a daylong festival scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Saturday. Entertainment by ethnic dancers and other groups will be offered, along with short lectures on environmental themes and tours of the community college campus. The event will last until 4 p.m. at the college, 4000 S. Rose Ave.

* Channel Islands National Park will hold a March for Park fund-raiser starting at 8 a.m. Saturday. People are urged to bike, walk or jog to raise money for a native plant garden at the national park’s visitors center at Ventura Harbor. Organizers hope to raise $1,000 for the garden and other projects. The march is sponsored by Friends of Channel Islands National Park, a nonprofit group affiliated with the five-island park chain.
