YORBA LINDA : Council to Consider Public Smoking Ban

Share

A public hearing on an ordinance that would ban smoking in public places will be held at 7 tonight in City Council chambers.

The proposed ordinance would restrict smoking at places of employment, buildings accessible to the public and other public places.

If the amendment is adopted as written, the city would be the first in North County to enact the ban and would join Laguna Hills as the only cities in the county to ban smoking both in restaurants and workplaces.

A similar ban was adopted late last year by the county Board of Supervisors, but it affects only unincorporated areas of the county.

According to Americans for Nonsmokers Rights, a national anti-smoking group, Dana Point, Huntington Beach and Laguna Beach are phasing in a smoking ban at restaurants.

San Juan Capistrano already has a ban.
