COLLEGE ROUNDUP : SCC Knocks Off Concordia in the 13th Inning

Kenny Turner’s bases-loaded, two-out single in the bottom of the 13th inning scored Brian Penner with the game-winning run as Southern California College beat Concordia, 4-3, in a Golden State Athletic Conference baseball game Tuesday at SCC.

Ila Borders started for SCC, allowing three runs, two earned, and seven hits in six innings. She walked two and didn’t have a strikeout. Borders, pitching in her first conference game, left with the score tied, 3-3. She threw 78 pitches.

Jeff Beckley struck out seven, including six consecutive, in 3 2/3 innings for SCC (16-22, 6-8). SCC had seven sacrifice bunts. Concordia is 15-23-1, 5-9.

In nonconference baseball:

UC San Diego 7, Chapman 6--Chris Miyake hit a two-run home run as visiting UC San Diego scored four times in the sixth to take a 6-3 lead.

Chapman finished the season 10-25-1. UC San Diego, ranked third in NCAA Division III, is 25-3.

In nonconference softball:

Southern California College 4-9, Pacific Christian 2-0--Angie Vega hit a grand slam and a triple, and drove in five runs in the second game for SCC (38-7). Beth Howard (20-3) pitched her 11th shutout in the second game, striking out nine.

Carrie Nelson had three hits and stole four bases in the two games. PCC is 14-16.
