CAMARILLO : Panel Approves East Side Development

Share

The Camarillo Planning Commission has approved a developer’s request to build 160 condominiums and 42 single-family houses on a 19-acre parcel on the city’s east side.

The commission voted unanimously Tuesday night to approve the project by the Camarillo-based Pardee Construction Co. The plan must still go before the City Council.

The parcel is near the intersection of Mission Oaks Boulevard and Woodcreek Road. The development is less dense than was stipulated in the developer’s original 1991 application, project manager Bill Teller said. He added that the company opted to go with a lighter-density development because of the surrounding neighborhood.

Robert W. Burrow, a senior planner with the city, said the commission asked the developer to erect a wall along Mission Boulevard and change driveway entrances on the thoroughfare to dampen the level of traffic noise that could affect residents of the project.

The commission also required that at least 20% of the units be made available to low-income families. The City Council is scheduled to consider the project at its May 11 meeting.
