LOS ANGELES : Student Accused in Rape Wins Chance to Graduate

Share

A judge ordered Pomona College Wednesday to allow a student accused of date rape to graduate and to postpone a disciplinary hearing based on claims his accuser made to school officials.

The student received a letter from the college in March ordering him to appear at a disciplinary hearing Friday that could threaten his chance of graduating. The hearing was prompted by a complaint from a student who claims the man raped her in his dormitory room in October, 1991. The accused student admits he had sex with the woman, but says she consented.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Diane Wayne ordered the college not to hold the hearing until after she hears more arguments on the legal representation issue on May 24.

She ruled that both students’ names be kept secret and the accused student be allowed to graduate on schedule May 15.
