The U.S. national team continues its preparation for this summer’s World Cup soccer tournament when it plays Iceland at 3 p.m. today at Southwestern College in Chula Vista.
The match marks the third meeting between the teams in little more than a year.
On April 17 last year, the United States tied Iceland, 1-1, at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa in a game during which American defender Marcelo Balboa suffered torn ligaments in his right knee. The injury sidelined Balboa for seven months.
On Aug. 31, the United States defeated Iceland, 1-0, at Reykjavik on a goal by Netherlands-based striker Ernie Stewart.
Later this week, the U.S. squad will travel to New Mexico for a game against Chile at Albuquerque on Saturday.
