With closer Bryan Harvey injured, the Florida Marlins barely held off the Atlanta Braves.

Harvey suffered an elbow injury Monday night and left the game in the ninth inning of the Marlins’ 4-3 victory over the Braves at Miami. It was the Braves’ first loss in 11 road games this year.

X-rays of Harvey’s elbow were negative. He will undergo more tests today to determine the extent of the injury.

“I’m not worried yet,” Harvey said. “I don’t know what it is. If it’s just tendinitis, it’s nothing to worry about.”

Harvey, then with the Angels, had surgery on the same elbow in 1988 and 1992.

Harvey started the ninth and gave up a walk and single. He threw a 95-m.p.h. fastball for strike one to Javier Lopez, felt a burning sensation in his arm, visited with a trainer and left the game.

Jeremy Hernandez replaced Harvey and gave up a two-run double to Lopez before retiring three consecutive batters for his first save of the season. First baseman Jeff Conine made a diving catch of Deion Sanders’ liner to end the game with pinch-runner Mike Kelly at second.

Atlanta’s two runs in the ninth were charged to Harvey, the first he has given up all year, spring training included.

Dave Weathers (3-1) pitched 7 1/3 innings and Gary Sheffield hit a two-run homer for the Marlins.

Colorado 7, St. Louis 6--The Rockies hit three home runs at Busch Stadium, showing the Cardinals that they have plenty of power away from Mile High Stadium.

Andres Galarraga and Ellis Burks each hit their eighth homers in the fifth inning against Tom Urbani (0-2) as Colorado took a 7-6 lead. Galarraga’s three-run shot tied the score and Burks put the Rockies ahead with his third consecutive hit.

Howard Johnson hit his first homer in the first inning for the Rockies, who have hit eight home runs in three games.

Houston 7, Pittsburgh 3--Andy Stankiewicz hit a three-run homer and Craig Biggio hit a two-run shot for the Astros at Houston.

Pete Harnisch (1-2) gave up six hits in his first complete game of the season. He struck out eight and walked three.

Cincinnati 4, Chicago 3--Roberto Kelly’s two-out single in the 10th inning gave the Reds the victory at Cincinnati after Tony Fernandez hit a two-run homer on reliever Randy Myers’ first pitch in the ninth to tie the score.

Fernandez’s hit was the first given up by Myers (0-1) this season. It was Myers’ first blown save in 21 opportunities.
