What’s Open, What’s Closed

Today has been declared a national day of mourning because of former President Richard Nixon’s funeral.

* Federal offices: Closed.

* Federal courts: Courts in Los Angeles will remain open, with each district court judge deciding whether to recess.

* Banks: Open.

* Stock market: The New York Stock Exchange, the American Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq will be closed. The Chicago Mercantile Exchange plans to close trading in stock index futures and options contracts, but the Chicago Board of Trade plans a regular trading session.

* State offices: Open.

* County offices: Open.

* County courts: Open.

* City offices: All city of Los Angeles offices will remain open.

* Mail: No regular mail delivery. Express Mail and special delivery items will be delivered. Mail pickup from street collection boxes will operate on a holiday schedule. Limited retail services will be available at the Terminal Annex Post Office, 900 N. Alameda St.; Main Office, Florence and Central avenues; Worldway Air Mail Center, 5800 W. Century Blvd.; Industry Post Office, 15421 Gale Ave., and the Santa Ana Main Post Office, 3101 W. Sunflower Ave.

* Schools: All Los Angeles Unified School District schools and offices will remain open. El Camino College will close all offices and cancel all day and evening classes.

* Medical centers: The Sepulveda Veterans Administration Medical Center in North Hills will be closed. Veterans who have scheduled clinic appointments are advised to call (818) 895-9533 or (818) 894-8394 to reschedule.

The West Los Angeles Veterans Administration Medical Center will be closed to all non-emergencies, and all clinics will be closed. Patients with scheduled clinic appointments will be notified by mail of new appointment dates.
