Prosecutors Say Former GM Exec Had Documents: They confirmed that secret General Motors Corp. papers were found at a residence of Jose Ignacio Lopez de Arriortua after the cost-cutting executive quit GM to join Volkswagen. While strengthening the case against GM’s former head of worldwide purchasing, the Darmstadt, Germany, prosecutor’s office did not say explicitly that Lopez illegally took secrets to VW. Nor would it confirm press reports that Lopez would soon be indicted. Adam Opel, GM’s German subsidiary, accused Lopez of industrial espionage after he moved to Volkswagen in March, 1993.
