ALHAMBRA: Two men armed with .45-caliber pistols stole an undisclosed amount of cash from an Alpha Beta supermarket at 2810 W. Alhambra Road at 12:45 p.m. Friday. The two fled in a car minutes before officers arrived. No arrests have been made and no injuries were reported, police said.

ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST: A Pasadena man lost an eye Monday when a Los Angeles Police Department mechanic, angry over the way the man was driving, allegedly stopped in front of his car and shot him in the face on the Angeles Crest Highway. Noel Milovic, 51, was in stable condition at Verdugo Hills Hospital and is expected to recover, deputies said. Sheriff’s detectives arrested Michael Shinkman, 52, of Antelope Valley and booked him on suspicion of attempted murder.

ARCADIA: Half a dozen gunmen stole about $56,000 in cable converter boxes from the TCI Cablevision Co. at 641 W. Duarte Road early Monday morning. At 7:10 a.m., several armed men assaulted an employee as he was opening the doors to the offices, tied him up and loaded the converter boxes into a van parked outside.

BALDWIN PARK: Police are searching for the driver of a black Pontiac Fiero who hit a bicyclist early Tuesday morning and then sped away. The bicyclist apparently turned in front of the Fiero at 6:15 a.m. at the intersection of Badillo Street and Badillo Circle. The cyclist, who has not been identified, is in critical condition with massive head injuries. The automobile involved was missing its left headlight cover and had some front-end damage. Anyone with information is urged to call Baldwin Park police.

EL MONTE: A single-engine plane made a successful emergency landing at the El Monte airport about 4:45 Friday afternoon, police said. Robert Kappmeyer, 67, of Whittier, was flying his Cessna 210 from Whittier to El Monte when he noticed his nose landing gear would not come down. Kappmeyer managed to set his plane down with only moderate damage to the aircraft and no injuries, police said.

INDUSTRY: Sheriff’s detectives are asking for witnesses to help solve the killing of a man gunned down as he was driving northbound on the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway last week. Juan Ramos, 19, died April 18, the day after he was shot by four men in a Ford Mustang hatchback about 9 p.m. Witnesses said the Mustang and Ramos’ Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme were being driven erratically, as if trying to ram each other, when shots were fired from the Ford. At least three of the four men in the Mustang, who were described as being in their 20s, wore white cowboy hats.

PASADENA: A judge ruled Friday that grand jury transcripts of the hearings that led to murder charges being filed against five suspects in the killings of three Pasadena boys last Halloween will remain sealed until May 9. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Lance A. Ito also pushed back until May 9 the arraignments of Lorenzo Newborn, 23, of Los Angeles; Aurelius Bailey, 19; Solomon Bowen, 18; and Herbert McClain, 25, all of Pasadena, and Karl Holmes, 19, of Altadena.

ROSEMEAD: A standoff between sheriff’s deputies and a distraught Rosemead man ended when he was killed by a single shotgun blast fired by a deputy, authorities said. The man apparently ignored warnings to drop a pistol he was pointing at the deputies. Arthur Victor Dacapias Jr., 23, had been barricaded in his house in the 9100 block of Guess Street for about half an hour on the night of April 20 when he emerged and began waving a semiautomatic pistol at officers, said Deputy Irma Vecerra of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
