Peters Canyon Regional Park, the most recent addition to the county park system, is a rolling swath of green that straddles the Orange-Tustin border, with a lake at the north end, eucalyptus groves at the south and a well-developed trail system.

Since it opened a year ago, the 354-acre park has become a popular destination for mountain bikers, hikers, trail runners, equestrians and nature enthusiasts. Those who haven’t tried the park yet can get an introduction Saturday, when it becomes the site of the county’s annual Adventure Day.

The third annual event, which moves to a different park each year, will feature guided walks, hayrides, wildlife displays from the Orange County Zoo and other groups, folk music from the Cottonwood String Band and a contest for kids hooked on the TROV craze. Also featured will be exhibits and programs from a host of local outdoor-oriented groups.

On Sunday, runners will get a chance to put in a few miles for a good cause with the sixth annual Camp Titan 8K and 3K Stride. All proceeds will benefit Camp Titan, a Cal State Fullerton-sponsored program that sends about 140 underprivileged Orange County children to summer camp each year.

The flat, fast course starts and finishes in front of the gym at the university, 800 N. State College Blvd. Race-day sign-ups start at 6:30 a.m. The 3K starts at 8 a.m.; the 8K, which features awards for the top three finishers in each division, begins at 8:30.

Entry fee is $18 and includes a T-shirt. (714) 773-3036.
