Horsman, a left-hander, was 1-0 with a 2.57 ERA in seven games at Tacoma in the Pacific Coast League.

The St. Louis Cardinals lost their third pitcher in four days when left-hander Rheal Cormier left after one inning Wednesday against the Atlanta Braves, a game that was eventually rained out. Cormier, who threw 18 pitches and gave up one hit, felt tightness and soreness in his left shoulder “that appeared to be muscular in nature,” Cardinal spokesman Brian Bartow said. Cormier will undergo an MRI test this morning and Manager Joe Torre said he would probably know the extent of the injury by this afternoon. . . . The American League denied that University of Kansas Chancellor Gene Budig has been recommended by a search committee to succeed Bobby Brown as league president. Budig said he had not been offered the job, and two members of the search committee said no decision had been made.
