Sync Research: The company has teamed up with Silicon Valley networking firm 3Com Corp. in a product development agreement. 3Com in Santa Clara invested an unspecified amount of money in Irvine-based Sync Research for an equity stake. Terms were not disclosed.

Under the deal, 3Com will offer to its customers a product line known as SNA-to-LAN/WAN converters, being developed by Sync Research. The product enables one type of computer network to transfer data to another.

Sync Research, founded in 1982 by John Rademaker, its chief executive, specializes in network equipment and software that enable computer networks to communicate with centralized computers built by IBM.
