VENICE : Anti-Gang Rally Planned in Oakwood on Saturday
Mothers who have lost children to violence are the focus of a peace rally scheduled for Saturday in the Oakwood section of Venice, the hub of a gang war believed responsible for the deaths of about 15 people since last summer.
Councilwoman Ruth Galanter will host the pre-Mother’s Day event. Speakers will include anti-gang and other activists, along with relatives of people slain in gang violence around the county. The rally is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at the Oakwood Recreation Center, 767 California Ave.
A group from the neighborhood’s Pearl White Theater is scheduled to perform.
