CAMARILLO : School Board Looks at Student Testing
The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education tonight will consider a resolution to urge the state to amend parts of its new California Learning Assessment System tests.
The resolution asks the state not to hold the district legally liable for questions relating to students’ beliefs about sex, family life, morality and religion.
Additionally, the resolution asks state education officials to improve public and media communication regarding the goals of the new tests.
Board member Dolores (Val) Rains said she believes the test is basically effective but needs some adjustments. California school districts first administered the tests this year. They replaced the California Assessment Program tests.
“We want to listen to parents’ concerns about the tests,” Rains said. “But I don’t think we have to throw the baby out with the bathwater here.”
The school board will meet at Camarillo City Hall, 601 Carmen Drive, at 7 p.m.
