Landeta Stays a Ram; Kelly Mulls Offer

The Rams re-signed punter Sean Landeta on Wednesday and expect to sign free-agent wide receiver Greg McMurtry in the next few days.

The team retained Landeta by exercising its right of first refusal, matching an offer by the Detroit Lions. McMurtry, who played at New England last season, is expected to sign by the end of the week, said Jay Zygmunt, the team’s senior vice president.

The Rams also are expecting a decision from free-agent linebacker Joe Kelly, who’s deciding between one-year offers from the Rams and Washington Redskins. Kelly was the Raiders’ second-leading tackler last season with 103, but the team waived him two weeks ago because of salary cap reasons.

Free-agent quarterback Chris Chandler worked out for Ram coaches Wednesday, but no contract agreement has been reached. Chandler, formerly with the Cardinals, previously visited Rams Park on March 7, the same day the Rams signed Chris Miller.

But the Rams are now searching for a veteran backup for Miller, and this week brought in free-agents Chandler and Jack Trudeau, formerly of Indianapolis.

Former New Orleans cornerback Toi Cook also worked out for the Rams on Wednesday.
