Ingram Micro Inc.: The worldwide computer distributor reported Thursday that its first-quarter sales increased 35%, to $1.26 billion.

The company said the increase was due to strong sales of brand-name computers--Hewlett-Packard, Compaq and Digital Equipment Corp.--that Ingram Micro began distributing in the past year as well as to high demand for multimedia products, which allow a computer to combine sound, video, graphics and text.

Ingram Micro also reported rapid growth in Europe, with year-to-year sales increasing 104%.
