DOWNTOWN : Casino Night to Aid Homeless Agency

Share

The annual “Monte Carlo Night” fund-raising gala for the Chrysalis homeless assistance agency will be May 18 at the Biltmore Hotel, 506 S. Grand Ave.

The event, which features an elaborate dinner buffet, casino games, celebrity dealers, entertainment and a silent auction, is one of two major fund-raising events for the Skid Row-based agency that helped 419 homeless people find full- or part-time jobs last year.

The 10-year-old agency at 516 S. Main St. provides assistance in all aspects of finding a job, from writing a resume, practicing for interviews and learning computer skills to advice on how to dress appropriately.

The agency also provides a place for homeless job applicants to receive phone calls and mail.

Chrysalis also operates the Labor Connection, a temp agency that contracts with local companies and industries for temporary work that can sometimes lead to permanent employment for the homeless.

Monte Carlo Nite, which typically brings in more than $150,000 for the agency, and an October run for the homeless account for half of Chrysalis’ annual budget.

Tickets for the fund raiser, which begins at 6 p.m., are $75.
