Bobbitt Arrested After Fiancee Alleges Abuse

John Wayne Bobbitt, the ex-Marine whose penis was severed by his wife in a case that touched off nationwide debate, was arrested Friday after his fiancee accused him of beating her.

Bobbitt, 26, was taken into custody on charges of battery and domestic violence after the woman summoned police to her apartment and alleged he had struck her, police spokeswoman Nicole Soto said.

He was being held in the city jail for a 12-hour “cooling off” period required under law in such cases. The extent of the woman’s injuries was not known.

Police refused to release her name or provide further details.

But the woman was identified in broadcast news reports as Bobbitt’s fiancee. He was said to have met her in Las Vegas while making one of his numerous nationwide paid appearances to tell his side of the story.
