The Fullerton Museum Center is calling for collectors to bring in sample items from their stashes as documentation for a forthcoming exhibition examining the collecting impulse. Collectors of “anything and everything” are asked to bring the museum one sample (the object or a photo of it), plus a written description of the collection, between 3 and 7 p.m. on May 17. The sample items will be photographed and the collector will be interviewed. Objects need not be left at the museum; collectors may be contacted later regarding loans for the exhibition. The show, “Gotta Have It!,” will open in December. (714) 738-6545.

The Orange Art Assn. will have its first art competition, juried by Fullerton College art professor Julia Beardsley, on July 22 from 6 to 9 p.m. and July 23 from 9 a.m. to noon. Artists working in traditional or modern styles may bring their two- or three-dimensional work (no slides) to the Guggenheim Gallery at Chapman University on either date. The exhibition will be at the gallery Aug. 3-21. Prizes include Best of Show ($200) and First, Second, Third and Popular Choice for both two-dimensional and sculptural work. $5 per entry for members, $8 for non-members. (714) 551-9476.
