Mountain Lion

The recent killing of the woman by the mountain lion in Northern California is no less tragic knowing it is the first such attack this century. We are all aware of the risks we may encounter when visiting wilderness areas. However, the swift decision by the Department of Fish and Game “bounty hunters” to enforce the death penalty against this cat and its subsequent shooting (May 2) only reinforces my opinion of this department’s frequent “kill it” solution to any wildlife resource issue that presents itself.

Too bad that all the serial killers, rapists, and other human garbage sitting on death row at taxpayers’ huge expense aren’t dealt with in a similar manner.

Let me see if I understand the logic of the Department of Fish and Game. If we choose to live in or on a border of a wilderness area and a wild animal wanders into a neighborhood and attacks a human, the suspected animal is tracked down and killed. However, if a human deliberately goes into a wild habitat and is attacked, the suspected animal is tracked down and killed. Do I have that right?

Sounds like a “lose-lose” situation for wildlife.
