Fleet to Purchase NBB Bancorp: Fleet Financial Group said it has agreed to buy the parent of the largest savings bank in Massachusetts for $420 million. Fleet, a Providence, R.I.-based banking company with about $46 billion in assets, said the acquisition will extend its operations in southern Massachusetts and add to franchises in Rhode Island and on Cape Cod. Fleet currently has 1,200 offices nationwide.
