Oral Arguments Set in Proposition 103 Case: The California Supreme Court set a June 7 date for arguments in the case of 20th Century Insurance Co. vs. Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi, a key step in the legal struggle over the 1988 insurance rollback initiative. The case is before the Supreme Court on Garamendi’s appeal of a Superior Court judge’s ruling that Garamendi lacked authority to impose a blanket 10% limit on insurers’ profitability. The hearing date is the same as that of the primary election for governor, in which Garamendi faces state Treasurer Kathleen Brown, a fellow Democrat.
