The Press : Cartoonists Draw Lessons From Rabin and Arafat
Bargaining to the last moment, Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization finally put pen to paper last Wednesday, signing the agreement to bring self-rule to Jericho and the Gaza Strip. It was the first step in what Palestinians hope will become a wider homeland, perhaps a state.
The long road to the peace agreement and practical self-rule ended in Cairo, where the signing ceremony took place. PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat and Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin represented the two parties. But deployment of PLO officials was off to a slow start by Monday.
