Trout Are Big Story as Tournament Nears

Share

If fishing remains as good as it has been in recent weeks, this year’s May Trout Classic, Saturday and Sunday at Big Bear Lake, could be one of the most memorable.

All the marinas are weighing in limits, but it is the size of the fish that has everyone’s attention. Al D’Emanuele of Fawnskin, Calif., used a glob of red and green Power Bait to lure an eight-pound trout, and Gordon Griffith of Lancaster used a Rapala lure to catch a 7-pound 4-ounce fish.

“Looks like we’ve got the lake primed for the tournament,” Griffith said. The tournament, limited to 400 entries, is sold out.
