INGLEWOOD : Man Convicted in Rape, Murder Case
A 21-year-old Los Angeles man was convicted of murdering an Inglewood woman and molesting her preteen daughter in 1992, just two weeks after he had raped another woman.
Jurors on Tuesday found Deshawn Malone guilty of raping and murdering Davette Beatley, 36, in her Inglewood apartment in the November, 1992, attack. Malone also was convicted of raping another woman two weeks before he shot Beatley.
The trial’s penalty phase, which began Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, will determine whether Malone is sentenced to death or to life in prison without possibility of parole.
