ALHAMBRA UNIFIED: A state bill proposed by Alhambra High School students and sponsored by Assemblywoman Diane Martinez (D-Rosemead) has passed the Assembly Education Committee. The bill would require all high school students, starting with the class of 1998-99, to complete a semester of work in multiculturalism.

AZUSA UNIFIED: The Azusa Adult School will hold an open house May 19 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at 1134 S. Barranca Ave., Glendora. Items from the school’s leather-craft, ceramics, needle-craft and other classes will be displayed and sold, and instructors will answer questions about courses such as nurses aid training, parent education, adult basic education and graduate equivalency exam preparation.

CLAREMONT: John Ball, science department chair of the Webb Schools, college preparatory high schools, received an $8,500 grant to design an interactive museum exhibit on the motion of dinosaurs. The computer-based exhibit will be housed on campus at the museum of paleontology, where it will be open to elementary school tours and to the public. Ball is among 40 teachers chosen from 800 applicants to receive the award from Toyota Motor Sales.

HACIENDA LA PUENTE UNIFIED: Students at Sparks Elementary School attended a safety fair April 30 sponsored by the school-parent group and Assemblywoman Hilda L. Solis (D-El Monte). Two-hundred kindergarten through sixth-grade students climbed on fire engines, received fire safety coloring books, and got tips on bicycle and household safety.
