World Cup Security

* The World Cup will bring the eyes of the world upon Los Angeles this summer, with an estimated television viewing audience of over 2 billion people for the final game. Police Commissioner Enrique Hernandez complains (“Reimbursement for World Cup Security Urged,” May 4) that the city will have to foot the security bill for the estimated 280,000 visitors who will be attending the World Cup. In light of the fact that these visitors will be spending millions of dollars in our city and that the city will get an unmeasurable amount of free tourism advertising, Hernandez’s request is shortsighted and petty.
