The Toronto Blue Jays, looking for bullpen help with closer Duane Ward on the disabled list, signed 35-year-old reliever Dave Righetti to a minor league contract. Righetti, who was released by Oakland on April 27, has a career record of 79-76 with 252 saves for the New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants. He had no record with no saves for Oakland, which signed Righetti in December. Righetti was sent to Toronto’s double-A affiliate in Knoxville, Tenn. . . . The Athletics put outfielder Rickey Henderson, who has a sore left knee, on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 10. . . . The Cleveland Indians purchased the contract of former Angel infielder Rene Gonzales from triple-A Charlotte, optioned right-handed pitcher Chad Ogea to Charlotte and designated right-hander Tom Kramer for assignment. Gonzales, 32, signed with the Indians on April 7 after he was released by Baltimore. Last season with the Angels, he hit .251 with two homers and 31 RBIs in 118 games. . . . The New York Mets reactivated relief pitcher Mike Maddux from the 15-day disabled list. Maddux went on the disabled list retroactive to April 27 because of a broken toe on his right foot.
