Weekend Box Office : Something to Crow About

“The Crow,” with the late Brandon Lee, was solidly in first place, when final weekend box-office numbers were reported on Monday, followed by another strongly performing drama, “When a Man Loves a Woman.” That movie, starring Andy Garcia and Meg Ryan, opened nationwide after two weeks of limited runs. Spike Lee’s “Crooklyn” opened to good but unremarkable numbers.

* Twenty-one weekends later, director Jonathan Demme’s “Philadelphia,” the first major studio movie to deal with AIDS, is still in wide release. Boosted by Oscars for Tom Hanks and the Bruce Springsteen song, the TriStar release has grossed nearly $75 million.
