Cable Industry Picks Violence Monitor: The cable TV industry, which has been under pressure from lawmakers to clean up violence on television, will announce that it has selected MediaScope, a Studio City-based nonprofit group that promotes “pro-social” entertainment, to monitor and report on levels of violence on cable TV. MediaScope will monitor more than two dozen cable TV channels over the next three years. The group will hire scholars who have studied the effects of TV violence on viewers to help in the research. MediaScope, headed by Marcy Kelly, has a board of directors that includes representatives of the cable industry as well as cable industry critics and former members of the Federal Communications Commission.
