LOS ANGELES : ‘Three Strikes’ Case Filed in Carjacking Murder

Share

Prosecutors filed a “three strikes” case Tuesday against a man held in the weekend carjacking murder of a father of three in Willowbrook.

Leland Chambers, 31, was charged with the unlawful taking of a vehicle and receiving stolen property. But murder charges have not yet been filed against him in Sunday’s shooting death of Terrance Booker, 26.

Sheriff’s investigators are searching for a second man suspected of taking part in the theft of Booker’s decorated, silver 1970 Chevrolet Impala convertible on El Segundo Boulevard. About 11 p.m. Sunday, an anonymous caller phoned detectives to say that the stolen car, covered with blankets, was parked behind an apartment building in Lynwood.

Detectives arrested Chambers within an hour as he allegedly tried to drive the car from behind the building. Chambers was expected to be arraigned in Los Angeles Municipal Court this afternoon.

Because he has been convicted of at least two other felonies, Chambers faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted of the two charges filed Tuesday, Childs said.
