Countywide : Adopt a Pet Day at O.C. Animal Shelter

To help observe Be Kind to Animals Month and to celebrate the grand reopening of the Orange County Animal Shelter, the county facility will hold Adopt a Pet Day on Saturday .

Free spaying and neutering will be available for any pet adopted at the shelter that day.

Exhibits from animal care organizations, a dog show, photo and poster contest also will highlight the event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the shelter, 531 The City Drive in Orange.

County officials say they want to let the public know about the many animals up for adoption at the shelter and educate people about pet care.

Free animal care products will be available and the Animal Assistance League of Orange County will donate certificates good for free spaying and neutering of any animal adopted on Saturday .

The event will be the first opportunity for the county facility to show off its recently completed renovations, including a newly designed main entrance and parking lot.

Trained police dogs and canines associated with the Santa Ana Valley Kennel club will give demonstrations. County officials will also have a pet photo contest and a children’s Be Kind To Animals poster contest.
