It wasn’t easy, but Gov. Marc Racicot delivered his commencement address as promised. And the graduating class of one appreciated what the governor went through to get there.

“I just wanted someone special to come to my graduation,” said 14-year-old Cory Rieber, an eighth-grader at Reichle School. “He was pretty much my only choice.”

Bad weather forced Racicot to make the 100-mile trip from Helena by car instead of plane. The last stretch took him over a muddy country road, past men in fields setting irrigation pipes, a feedlot full of yearling cattle and a yard filled with last year’s hay crop.

Glen is a ranching community in southwestern Montana. About 60 people--and all 17 students at the two-room school--turned out to hear the governor on Tuesday. The school has children in kindergarten through eighth grade.
