Oxnard police arrested eight residents Thursday in a raid of homes near the corner of Cooper Road and Hayes Avenue, an area that has suffered from chronic problems with drugs and violence, police said.

About 11:20 a.m., police raided five buildings, serving search warrants that stemmed from a monthlong undercover narcotics investigation, according to a statement from the department.

They found several grams of heroin, about an ounce of cocaine, two handguns, a rifle and $1,500 in cash during the sweep, police said. Officers raided a cafe and two homes on Hayes Avenue and nearby businesses on Garfield Avenue and Grant Avenue.
